Stewardship of private waters for aesthetics & ecosystem health in Utah’s high country
Personalized aquatic management for private landowners, ranches, HOAs, golf courses, resorts, and potentially nonprofits and public land partners.

Our approach
Decades of education and hands-on experience, brought to Utah’s high country.
High Country Pond and Stream brings decades of education and hands-on experience to Utah’s high country — blending the stewardship of private waters with a commitment to both beauty and ecological health. We intentionally take on a select number of clients, so you get personalized attention tailored to your property — whether you’re stewarding streams, ponds, lakes, and water features, or navigating the permitting, compliance, and paperwork that often comes with them.
Our work is guided by Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles: favoring prevention, monitoring, and root-cause solutions, with chemical treatment reserved as a targeted, reactive tool rather than a default.
While our roots are in private water stewardship, our science-based approach — from PFC assessments to permitting and grant writing — also supports conservation nonprofits, easement holders, and public land partnerships.

Stewardship built for your goals
Great stewardship starts with a conversation.
From the first call and site visit, we take the time to understand your waters and what matters most to you — whether that’s the visual beauty of your water, creating swimming or fishing opportunities for your family, enhancing fish and wildlife habitat, or improving property aesthetics before a sale. Every property is different. Every owner has different priorities. Our job is to understand yours, and work within them to help meet your needs and hopefully maximize the potential of your waters.

What we do
Our three areas of stewardship
Every service is tailored — as much as practical — to your property and your goals, from routine maintenance to one-time assessments.
Ponds & Water Features
High-elevation ponds behave differently — short seasons, hard winters and snowmelt-driven inflows. We start with an assessment, then build a plan around what your pond needs — including water-feature startup, winterization and pump work.
Streams & Riparian Corridors
A stream is not a pond with a current. We start with a Proper Functioning Condition assessment, then treat the root cause rather than repeat the same repair every spring.
Mitigation & Compliance
Most of the difficulty is not ecological — it is knowing which agency needs what, in which format, by when. We handle the mapping, the monitoring and the paperwork.

About us
Decades of science-backed experience, now serving Utah’s high country
High Country Pond and Stream was founded by Dan, whose career has largely focused on the science and stewardship of water.
Proactive stewardship is smart economics
Deferred maintenance leads to costly, large-scale restoration — far more expensive than consistent, thoughtful care from the start. Steady attention protects both your water and your investment.
A select number of clients, by design
High Country Pond and Stream intentionally takes on a select number of clients, so you get personalized attention tailored to your property — whether you’re stewarding streams, ponds, lakes, and water features, or navigating the permitting and compliance that comes with them.
More about DanCommon questions
Straight answers
Who is the best pond maintenance company in Utah’s High Country?
We are a small, science-led operation rather than a route service. Dan holds a B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Science, and takes on a deliberately limited client list so every pond gets a plan built around its own water. If you want a one-size-fits-all route stop, we are not the right fit.
Do you do pond cleaning near me?
We work within roughly a couple of hours of our High Country base for recurring pond and water feature maintenance, which covers Summit and Wasatch counties, Heber City, Kamas and Midway. Travel and mobilization costs do not pencil out for small recurring jobs much beyond that.
How much does pond maintenance cost in Utah?
It depends on the water. Most properties start with a consultation — free for smaller water features close to our home base, paid for ponds and larger features, which includes a walkthrough, water assessment and a written report. Recurring visits are weekly, semi-weekly or monthly.
My pond turned green. What do I do?
Get it identified before it gets treated. Cyanobacteria and other harmful algae blooms pose real risks to people, pets, livestock and wildlife, and the right response depends on what is actually growing. We identify bloom conditions early and treat in a targeted way, backed by a licensed commercial pesticide applicator.
Do you use chemicals?
Prevention and monitoring first — that is what Integrated Pest Management means. Chemical treatment is a targeted tool, never the default. We are also piloting a chemical-free approach for ponds already in good condition.
Do you work with HOAs, golf courses and resorts?
Yes, and that is a good deal of the work. That includes stormwater pond stewardship with documentation ready for permit compliance, which matters when a pond is doing double duty as infrastructure rather than just an amenity.
